Pre-Shoot Preparation? Sending a brief note with your Instagram and desired “looks” is optional but recommended for a tailored session.

Makeup Artist? For the best results, we recommend arriving camera-ready or booking an additional slot if you’re bringing a makeup artist. This ensures ample time for makeup application and your photo session, allowing for a variety of looks. Our sessions leverage natural light, so any makeup adjustments will need to be managed on-location. Please inform us in advance if a makeup artist will accompany you.

Retouching? Only $20 per image! In an era where AI imagery and deepfakes are prevalent, casting professionals prefer authenticity. Our retouching services are tailored to enhance your true self, aiming to present you naturally—like you on your best day, without transforming you into a totally filtered, avatar-like version. This approach aligns with current industry preferences, moving away from overly processed images to more genuine representations. We focus on refining your photos by addressing blemishes, acne, and slight skin discoloration, ensuring you look your absolute best without compromising your natural essence. The goal is to enhance your appearance subtly and tastefully, ensuring that your headshots reflect the real you, not an over-edited version. All retouches are final.

Selection Assistance? Certainly, for $100/hour with a 1-hour minimum, I can offer selection assistance. Given the constraints on my time, this service allows me to dedicate the attention needed to meticulously review your shots and provide you with a curated selection of the most impactful images. This process includes a detailed narrowing-down of options along with my top picks. My extensive experience in headshot photography and a deep understanding of the entertainment industry equip me with the insight to identify the shots that will best serve your career. This service is designed to maximize the effectiveness of your portfolio, ensuring you present your best self to casting directors and industry professionals.

Payment, Deposit, and Cancellation? Upon making an appointment, your card will be swiped. You may edit your appointment as often as you’d like through your confirmation email, but you must cancel 24 hours in advance, or you will be charged a non-refundable cancellation fee equal to the price of the shoot you booked. Remember to use your confirmation email to manage your appointment. If you’re running late, you could lose some shooting time, so please be punctual! If you are more than 20 minutes late, I reserve the right to cancel the shoot, and you will be charged the full fee of the shoot as a no-show. In certain instances, where there is a genuine emergency, I will consider allowing you to reschedule at a discounted rate. We accept all major credit cards, cash, Apple Pay, and Venmo. Payment is due at the end of the shoot.

Raining Outside? Light drizzle is not a problem. My main shooting location has a substantial overhead roof that is rainproof! However, I recommend bringing an umbrella for your short walk from your car; I’ll have an extra one just in case. If it’s raining heavily, we might need to reschedule.

Social Media & Copyright? You are welcome to use all images for social media, personal and business websites, flyers, and all casting needs. For extensive advertising purposes such as book covers, billboards, TV commercials, etc., please get in touch to discuss. We ensure that advertising usage fees are kept reasonable. We kindly ask you to credit all social media posts to @actorphotola. Unless specified otherwise by you, your photos may be featured on our website or social media platforms.

Decoding “Looks” in Headshots:

When we talk about “1 Look” in the world of headshots, we’re referring to one outfit change. This is crucial for actors aiming to showcase their versatility across a spectrum of potential roles. Hollywood casting directors operate with a literal eye; they want to see you embody the diverse characters you can play, directly in your headshots. This might mean changing from a business-casual appearance to something more theatrical, or even altering your look with a simple accessory change, such as a different tie for men or a scarf for women.

However, in the traditional photography model, every single change, even as minor as adding a jacket or, for women, switching a blouse under the same suit, could be counted as a new look. This can severely limit the variety you’re able to present without incurring additional costs. But at ActorPhotoLA, you’re liberated from these constraints with our unlimited looks package. You can explore as many looks as you desire. While we suggest sticking to 3-4 looks per hour to ensure quality time is spent on each, for those who want to maximize their range and experiment with more, we’re fully supportive. Our goal is to provide you with a broad spectrum of headshots, enabling you to target a wide array of casting calls without the worry of additional charges for each look change.

Essential Looks for Actors:

  • Layers are Key: Changing layers can significantly alter your appearance. (Tip: If you wear glasses, consider removing the lenses to avoid glare.)
  • Corporate/Professional: Women should consider pantsuits, skirt suits, or business dresses with colorful shirts. Men can opt for suits, ties, and pressed, colorful collared shirts.
  • Commercial: Think layers, jean jackets, colorful T-shirts, and tops. Aim for a cheerful demeanor.
  • Theatrical: Be the most authentic version of yourself. Your favorite shirt might just be the perfect choice.
  • Comedic/Character: Embrace quirky, fun, and colorful styles. Glasses can add a nice touch.
  • Sleazy: Women might explore fishnets, animal prints, or edgy leather jackets. Men can try bold, colorful shirts or thrift store finds.
  • Tough/Criminal: Embrace gold, bling, leather, and flashy attire.
  • Period Pieces: Ready some outfits that represent different eras, as many productions are set in specific historical periods.
  • Athletic: Women can wear yoga or pilates attire, and men might consider shirtless or body shots.
  • Tech: Nerdy chic with glasses and buttoned-up shirts works well.
  • Blue Collar: A flannel or denim shirt, possibly with facial scruff for men, fits this category.
  • Edgy: A leather jacket and messy hair can create a grungy look.
  • Down and Out/Homeless: Opt for old, possibly dirty, baggy clothes.
  • Sexy: If it fits your brand, flaunt your best features!
  • Military: Simple, dark green shirts work well for a military vibe.
  • Trashy: Think tank tops, messy makeup, or a “morning after” look.

These looks serve as your arsenal for casting, helping you target submissions effectively. Remember, the more versatile your headshot portfolio, the broader the range of roles you can audition for.
